Aiken State Park opens TRACK Trail for kids and families

February 27, 2025

Aiken, S.C. – Today South Carolina State Parks, BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation, Diabetes Free SC, and Kids in Parks celebrated the grand opening of a new TRACK Trail at Aiken State Park

TRACK Trails are self-guided trails designed for kids and families. There are more than 300 TRACK Trails available throughout the country. Each trail has colorful, kid-friendly brochures that help turn an ordinary hike into a fun-filled, discovery-packed adventure.

One of South Carolina’s original 16 state parks, Aiken State Park was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), and the longest free-flowing blackwater stream in North America, the Edisto River, flows through the park. The new TRACK Trail adventures explore the park’s rich history and lively ecology, with four hikes to choose from: River through the Ages, We Can Take It – CCC History, Herps (reptiles and amphibians), and Artesian Wells. TRACK Trails are a free activity.

Kids who participate in the program can register their TRACK Trail adventures at KidsinParks.com to earn a series of prizes designed to make their next outdoor adventure even more fun and meaningful. Since the program’s inception, kids have completed more than a million TRACK Trail adventures.

The Aiken TRACK Trails were funded thanks to the generous support of the BlueCross Blue Shield of South Carolina Foundation and Diabetes Free SC.

“My career in state parks was inspired as a kid on a family road trip, visiting parks around the country,” said Aiken State Park Manager, Kelly Howell. “TRACK Trails are a wonderful way to engage with young adventurers as they learn, have fun, and explore the great outdoors, and we are thrilled to offer this free, hands-on experience at Aiken.”

Aiken is the seventh TRACK Trail in South Carolina State Parks. TRACK Trail adventures are also available at Oconee Station State Historic Site, Woods Bay State Park, Sesquicentennial State Park, Battle of Musgrove Mill Historic Site, Landsford Canal State Park, and Table Rock State Park
