South Carolina Tourism

Tourism is an estimated $29 billion industry in South Carolina, supports one in every 10 jobs and generates $1.8 billion in state and local taxes.

SCPRT's Tourism Office

The Sales and Marketing Office is dedicated to helping achieve SCPRT’s overarching goal of putting heads in beds, feet on fairways and people in parks. The office manages the state’s tourism brand identity and effectively delivers its key marketing message – There’s always something new to DISCOVER in South Carolina – through direct marketing programming and by providing opportunities that help tourism partners deliver their respective marketing messages to targeted audiences.

The office directs an integrated marketing program that includes an annual domestic leisure tourism advertising plan, inquiry and fulfillment, the state’s leisure website (DiscoverSouthCarolina.com) and social media platforms, operates nine state welcome centers, and offers a tourism advertising grant program. Additionally, the office directs an integrated international sales and marketing program that attracts visitors from Canada, the United Kingdom, German-speaking countries, France, Italy and Brazil. The office also manages a robust public relations program that works to garner domestic and international media exposure for the state’s destinations, attractions and events.

As part of the overall marketing plan, the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism utilizes both paid and organic social media efforts to increase brand awareness of the state’s destinations, attractions and restaurants. Through strategic brand partnerships and by sharing creative content, SCPRT works to build an engaged online community that aspires to discover all that the Palmetto State has to offer.
