Barnwell State Park opens TRACK Trail for kids and families
April 30, 2025
Barnwell, S.C. – Today, South Carolina State Parks, BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation, Diabetes Free SC, and Kids in Parks celebrated the grand opening of a new TRACK Trail at Barnwell State Park.
TRACK Trails are self-guided trails designed for kids and families. There are more than 300 TRACK Trails available throughout the country. Each trail has colorful, kid-friendly brochures that help turn an ordinary hike into a fun-filled, discovery-packed adventure.
One of South Carolina’s original 16 state parks, Barnwell State Park was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). It’s a popular spot for camping, community gatherings, picnicking, walking, and fishing. Barnwell’s new TRACK Trail adventures explore the park’s lively ecology, with four hikes focused on trees, pond life, relationships in nature, and birds. TRACK Trails are a free activity, and admission to Barnwell State Park is free.
Kids who participate in the program can register their TRACK Trail adventures at KidsinParks.com to earn a series of prizes designed to make their next outdoor adventure even more fun and meaningful. Since the program’s inception, kids have completed more than a million TRACK Trail adventures.
The Barnwell TRACK Trails were funded thanks to the generous support of the BlueCross Blue Shield of South Carolina Foundation and Diabetes Free SC.
Barnwell is the eighth TRACK Trail in South Carolina State Parks. TRACK Trail adventures are also available at Aiken State Park, Oconee Station State Historic Site, Woods Bay State Park, Sesquicentennial State Park, Battle of Musgrove Mill Historic Site, Landsford Canal State Park, and Table Rock State Park.
