Hickory Knob Golf Course reopens following major renovations

McCormick, S.C. - Golfers are invited to experience a fresh look, improved course conditions, and the same breathtaking lake views when the golf course at Hickory Knob State Resort Park reopens on September 21 following extensive renovations.
The improvements are designed to enhance playability, golfer access, and the overall course experience. Renovations include complete restoration of all greens, improvements to bunkers, newly renovated tee boxes, and fairway aerification.
“We are very excited about the reopening of the golf course!” said Rob Powell, Manager of Hickory Knob State Resort Park. “Renovations started with the tee boxes just before Hurricane Helene. Despite the major setback that storm presented, we have been able to move forward with major improvements to the course’s playability.”
Golfers returning to Hickory Knob will find significant upgrades throughout the course:
- Greens: All greens have been dug up and replaced with new TifEagle turf. The renovation included rebuilding crowns where needed and improving root zones to create faster, truer, and smoother putting surfaces. Green collars have also been replaced with Tahoma 31 Bermuda.
- Bunkers: Bunkers have been completely reshaped with new liners, fresh sand, improved drainage, and rebuilt lips for more consistent play and easier maintenance.
- Tee Boxes: Tee boxes have been newly sodded to provide improved playing surfaces.
- Fairways: All tee boxes and fairways have been aerified to encourage steady growth and healthier, more lush turf.
“More improvements still to come are paving of the cart paths and bridges on the back 9 to prevent course flooding,” Powell said. “It was very important for us to improve the access and experience for our golfers, and it will be great to have players back with us. We hope that they are as excited about the improvements as we are!”
To celebrate the reopening, Hickory Knob is offering golfers special opportunities to combine a round of golf with an overnight stay. From September 21 through October 21, guests who book a round of golf can receive 25% off lodging at Hickory Knob State Resort Park. This offer provides an opportunity to experience the newly renovated course while enjoying the park’s scenic setting and comfortable accommodations. Golfers can also take advantage of Hickory Knob’s Stay & Play package, which includes breakfast, lodging, and golf:
- $115 per person, Wednesday–Sunday
- $100 per person, Monday–Tuesday
- Rates are based on double occupancy
