Mark Sexton

Mark Sexton is the Operations Supervisor of the Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department for the City of Rock Hill, a position which he has held since 2014. In 1998 his duties for Rock Hill Parks, Recreation and Tourism included the supervision of all youth and adult athletic programs for the Cherry Park facility. In 2002, he moved to Florence SC to become the Recreation Superintendent to oversee and manage the consolidation of recreational services between the city and the county. He returned to Rock Hill PRT in 2003 to serve as the Supervisor for the Administrative and Tourism Division with the Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department.

Mark earned his Bachelor of Science in Recreation with an emphasis on leisure services from Winthrop University in 1994. While at Winthrop, he played varsity baseball for four years, served as captain his senior year, and was awarded the Rock Hill Orthopedic Leadership Award in athletics. In 2009, Winthrop recognized him for his work in leisure services to the Rock Hill community as a member of the “Distinguished Alumna in Physical Education.“

Mark is a past Festival Chairman and board chairman of the Rock Hill Come-See-Me Festival and Board of Governors, past board member and chairman of the Rock Hill/York County Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Past President of the South Carolina Recreation and Park Association, where he received the 2002 Young Professional of the Year Award and 2015 Professional of the Year.

Mark was the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) hosting the 2012 US Youth Soccer National Championships which earned him the 2012 South Carolina Youth Soccer Association President’s Service Award, he was the LOC Chairman of the 2017 UCI BMX World Championship, and currently overseeing the LOC for the 2024 UCI BMX World Championship that will be returning to Rock Hill May 12-18, 2024 with over 3,700 athletes from 48 countries.
